PARNDON ROYALS 2 vs.0 MARQUIS SPORTS 17/11/2009 (a)
A
cold wet Sunday morning and with five first team picks unavailable I would rather have stayed in bed!
The
first half was hard for us as we struggled to come to terms with the enforced changes to the team and went behind after
17minutes when Royals scored from an offside situation that the otherwise excellent referee Danny Innes didn't agree
with.
To
make matters worse we went further behind following a mix-up between Lawro and Paddy allowing the opposing striker to
score while they dithered and the half ended
ROYALS
2 MARQUIS 0.
The
second half saw a vast improvement when Cocky came on for new boy Brian at left back who was finding hard work settling in
on his first game and we were able to keep the score as it was for the remainder of a game we would have expected to win with
a full compliment of players.

Preliminary Round - Premier Cup 26/10/2008
Two cup matches in the rain = 2 Defeats uuummmm are we a fair-weather side????
Although I thought we were the better side for most of the game we were mostly less hungry than the visitors who
really kept going and deserved to go through.

GPCA
vs. Marquis sports 19/10/2008
The early season re-building
of the side by Pete and Cocky had it's first real test yesterday as we went over to Staple Tye for a league match against
the arguably strongest Harlow side for the last couple of seasons, GPCA. Pete and Cocky have managed
not only to pull some real quality players to the club but the attitude's good all round and if it stays that way we aren’t
rolling over easy.
First half ended 0-0 with
two strong sides cancelling each other out and a second half with all to play for and that's how it turned out a real
roll-a-coaster until the final minute
GPCA went ahead within five
minutes of the re-start but Curt got us back on level terms connecting with a 25yd volley
which gave the excellent home keeper no chance.
Skipper Jimmy put us 2-1 up in the 68th minute and the home side pulled it level two minutes later and looked to
have sewn it up with only ten minutes left on the clock.3-2.
Luckily Curt hadn't finished and snuck into the box to pick his spot for his second of the game and a fair result
of GPCA 3 MARQUIS SPORTS 3
What a good game played in
the right spirit and the referee played his part with 10/10.
The topic of conversation
at our clubhouse was "How good the REF was” Mom Good performances all over the park But
Curts’ two strikes sealed it for him!

LINDSEY
ST vs. MARQUIS SPORTS 12/10/2008 (Away fixture played at home)
The management saw
fit to make a few changes this for today’s game so that the boys who haven’t featured too much were given a well-deserved
start.
Eagles got us up and running on 15 minutes when he latched on to a long ball from Glen, take it round
the keeper and pass it into the net.
The lead did
not last long as the Epping side broke quickly and caught us out 3 minutes later.
We went ahead again
when Eagles struck a free kick from just outside the box clearing the wall and dipping it
under the crossbar for 2-1.
Back all square as
Curt got a ball to hand in our box for a penalty.
Rowan put us 3-2 up just before half time and that's how it stayed at the change round.
Five minutes into
the re-start Rowan was in again 4-2.and we went further in the lead when Rowans persistence ended in a well deserved hat-trick 5-2 Skipper Jimmy got in
on the a act with a well taken goal and Eagles finished it off completing his hat-trick for
a final score

QUILTERS vs. MARQUIS SPORTS Essex Premier Cup 1st Round 05/10/2008
Arrived at Hannakins Farm Community Centre in the pouring rain for a first round match of "The Essex"
against "Quilters" of the Brentwood and District Sunday League.
While the boys were changing Norm and me watched the opposition warming up and I thought f--- me they're
tall!
Being tall proved to be the home sides downfall in the fifteenth minute when Pete Lawrence delivered
a perfect free kick to the far post for un-marked Li’Ole Jimmy
to out jump every player in the box to power a great header across the keeper and inside the far post to put us ahead.
(Tall blokes don't always jump)
That really was as good as it got for us as we had to many players having off days as the rain
continued to pour and the bigger, fitter opposition got stronger as the game went on.
We conceded what looked like goal from where I stood but it was given offside and we rode our
luck with some desperate but solid defending in which Curt was outstanding at centre-half. It came as no surprise when the
home side levelled the scores seconds before the half-time whistle to send them in on a high. HT 1-1.
At the re-start the Billericay side put the pressure on and took only five minutes to go ahead with
what proved to be the deciding goal of the tie as we defended well for the rest of the match to keep the score respectable.
I think had we been drawn at home we would have probably turned this side over but that's what the Essex
is all about i.e.; you have to be able to travel sometimes to intimidating places (this wasn't one) and you can't afford to
be too nice. On the whole good experience for the younger players, which is a positive, we can take away with us. The team
spirit is first-rate boys so all was not lost on the day!!

HARBERTS vs MARQUIS SPORTS 28/09/2008 (a)
A lovely
sunny morning over at Northbrook perfect for a game of football and it could be said that on the day we produced a perfect
game albeit against a team who are struggling at this moment in time, however on days like these it's easy to get
sloppy and miss chances and concede goals! Especially when you have a striker in between the sticks even though this man believes
he is good at everything football (not so at getting up on a Sunday)
The home side started brightly and on the evidence of the first half hour it looked
like a win here was going to be hard earned but when Gavin opened the scoring in the 30th minute we relaxed
and controlled the remainder of the half in which Billy scored his first goal for the club taking the ball on his chest and coolly lobbing the on rushing keeper. H.T. 0-2
Three minutes into the restart hard running Rowan was rewarded when he chased down a lost cause, which the keeper fumbled allowing Rowan to roll the ball into
an empty net. Eight minutes later Lou won the ball and fed Gavin down the right who put in a low cross for Rowan to side foot his second to make it 0-4. Centre half Steve got on the score sheet after going up for a corner and tucking the ball inside the post. 0-5
Another one of Gavin’s (so hard to defend) low crosses led to an O.G for 0-6
Charlie was unlucky not add to the tally hitting a "screamer" from 25yds only for the Harberts
keeper to pull of the save of the day with a great tip over the bar.
The scoring was wound up when Nathan found Jimmy in the box Jim dropped a shoulder sending three defenders the wrong way and rolled the ball in to put the cap on a
polished performance by all concerned and a final score HARBERTS 0 MARQUIS 7.
Great performance lads but remember ONE SWALLOW DOESN'T MAKE A SUMMER and we've
still got a long way to go. Next week it's The ESSEX another challenge!!!

MATCH REPORT MARQUIS SPORTS 1
RISDEN WOOD 0 (H) 21/09/2008
A very tightly fought match kinda "one
goal will do it"
We had the added bonus of Jimmy starting for
the first time this season and welcoming
Billy back from his holidays.
The negatives were to be without Trigger,Kiffy
and Eagles.
Marquis were always in control of the first
45 minutes which ended goaless
After the restart Risden started well and had
a good spell but the experience of Lawro and
Steve at the back shone through when it mattered
and Paddy was safe all day long stepping
up to the plate with a super save when asked.
The game continued end to end and it was going
to be one of those one goal thrillers'
fortunately Gavin Cockman
burst through three tackles and rifled the ball into the far corner
with five minutes left on the clock to secure
our first win of the season.
Every player out there contributed to this
"well earned" result but special mentions go to Nathan who's containment of the ball was outstanding, Jimmy who added so much
to the team effort, Lawro and Steve both so calm at the back.
MOM goes to Gavin
for the all important goal.

MATCH REPORT
07/09/2008
MARQUIS
SPORTS v PARNDON ROYALS (Fairways)
Caught up in what can be only described
as "a thriller" I was emotionally drained at the end of the ninety when club chairman Mick Pratt said would you write a report
please Dougal. In the heat of the moment my answer was yes Mr. Chairman. Come Sunday evening I realized that the game had
just flown by as good games always do and that I can only remember the bits that made me happy. So this is not a report as
such ........ Just a happy memory.
Happy memory No1 We drew with a much-fancied
Parndon Royals.
No2 Two players always wanted at Marquis
are at Marquis and there presence had a big influence on the way we played today. Kiffy and Trigger.
No3 Goalkeeper and back four. Glen sound
all round and when called upon for something special he delivered. Pete, Steve, Kiffy and young Billy who deserves a special
mention. Well-played Billy! Back four oozed quality.
No4 Trigger just what the Doctor ordered
for our young midfielders Simon, Lou and Gavin and as long as they listen they'll gain from the man.
No5 Jammie held it up, brought the midfield
into the game and made his flick on for Eagles who worked his socks off for the team as usual.
No6 The enthusiasm is "electric" from
everyone concerned with the club, which after last season is JUST GREAT!!
No7 Our Sponsor Tony Smith was at the
game and was really happy for our performance and continues to enthusiastically support us.
No8 Club President Norman was almost
singing on the way home and I haven't seen that for some time.
